Quamar Q13E Conical Grinder Lucido Polished Aluminium, 71MM

$ 1999

The Quamar Q13E Conical Grinder is a premium grinder designed for a high-quality coffee grind. With its large conical burr and slow-spinning motor, it could significantly reduce the amount of heat during grinding, which helps in preserving aromatic profiles from dissipating in the process.

The mini-steps on the grind setting make adjustment very easy and convenient for users.
It can be used in commercial environments, making up to 800 cups of coffee, depending on the coffee dosage used.

  • About Quamar

The original Fiorenzato which was found in the 1940s was a very famous grinder company who made the T80 grinders. The grinders were well known to be a workhorse and can still be found being used by users today. After passing over to the sons, the original Fiorenzato dissolved and split.

Some of the engineers moved over to Mazzer. While Quamar rightfully owns the moulds and designs of the grinders. Today, Quamar retained the designs of the old models, strengthened the parts and modernised the features. Being the top of the chain in the parts production, they can offer quality grinders, at up to half the price of their competitors.

  • TUNE THE GRINDER?

We’ll bring the grind setting closer to the proximity where it should work for making espresso using a dark roast coffee. Users may need to fine-tune further. The timer setting will not be set.

Note the grinder will have coffee after tuning which may spill during transport.

Quamar Q13E Conical Grinder Polished Aluminium

Quamar was a supplier for major brands for producing essential components and grinders.
With its experience and knowledge in production, it later started with its brand of grinders.
Not only are they high-performance and reliable, but they are also very affordable.

Quamar products are entirely made in Italy.

71mm Conical Burrs

Conic burrs are more durable. The 71mm size should last approximately 1100 KG before replacement is required.

The large conical burrs turning at very low speed ensures the best quality in every cup. Very little heat is created, flavours are not lost in the grinding process.

Better Tasting Coffee with Low RPM

One of the most critical parameters that is often overlooked.
The lower the RPM, the less heat, and the better preserved the flavour. This promotes clarity and better preservation of the oil in coffee during the grinding process.

The machine has a specially made 6-pole, low RPM motor which turns only 330 rounds per minute!

Exceptional Grind Quality

As conic burrs have a longer grind length. It will require fewer rounds to grind a dose of coffee.
The low RPM means a lot as less heat will be created, and any heat will be well dispersed in its wider grind area. This preserves the quality of the coffee tremendously. This can have a remarkable result on lighter roasted coffee and reduce the bitterness in darker roasts.

Grind quality is more consistent as the grinds must go through more area before it exits.

Fresh on demand

Beans are better protected from oxidation when it is in bean form.
In powdered form, the surface area will increase by at least 60 times which hastens oxidation, making your coffee stale within 6 hours of exposure.
This is an on-demand grinder, meaning the beans will remain in bean form and grind only when activated.

Touch buttons

The touch buttons are touch sensitive and don’t require a hard press nor need the buttons depressed.

This eliminates the possibility of coffee getting trapped within the gaps around a button, causing it to be stuck or non-reactive.

Electronic Interface

The Quamar Q13E Conical Grinder has an electronic timer to dose the amount of coffee needed according to the duration set, programmed to an accuracy of up to 0.05 seconds.
It has three dosage options and a manual button

It also has the following options:

Standby time – The time before the grinder goes off
Wear mill – Set the alert to the number of use before changing of burrs required.
Bar message – Set the welcome message
Brightness – LCD brightness control
Time/Date – Time and Date
Counts of coffee produced – Total, partial and month.

Mini Step Adjustments

The user can make tiny steps of adjustment to reach the grind setting he wants.

With the measuring scales, the user will have a reading of what grind setting he prefers.

Usability

The Quamar Q13E Conical Grinder has high-end features for a typical commercial environment and will benefit any smaller usage environment.

Well-Designed Hopper

The Quamar Q13E Conical Grinder has a 1.2 KG hopper.

The user can quickly remove the hopper and return most excess beans to storage.

Durability

Quamar grinders have always been designed for commercial usage, albeit they could always handle less volume.

For low-RPM motors, the torque requirement from the motor is much higher.  Quamar uses the conventional design used in cafe environments instead of DC motors with additional regulators and power converters that add more weakness to failure.

The hardened stainless steel and the heavy-duty motor should last well for years.

Easy Cleaning

The hopper, burrs and most parts can be removed or accessed to clean easily.

We will recommend users use the Puly Grinder Cleaner for cleaning the burrs.

FAQ

What’s the main difference between Q13, M80 and Q50?

Q50 uses the smallest burr, with Q13 using the largest.
M80 has a 63mm burr and is the smallest size we recommend for cafes, offices, and restaurants. They are also excellent for homes.
Between Q13 with 75mm flat burrs and Q13 with 71mm conical burrs, the latter is actually much bigger. Conical burrs can produce rounder grinds with better yield. Also, they spin at a much slower speed.

The smaller the burrs, the less fine it can grind, and the more heat it releases during grinding. Heat is increased due to lesser surface area to dissipate and faster RPM of turning required.
Heat is one of the main banes to coffee grinds and can diminish the aromatic profiles significantly.

What’s the main difference Quamar Q50 and Bezzera’s BB005?

Quamar Q50 has a better control on the timer. The collar has reference markings which might make it easier to follow for grind size adjustments.  The Quamar Q50 will be more convenient if you pour all your coffee into the bean hopper and use the timer to dispense coffee. That will be great if you do many coffees. The caveat is you will need to configure both the timer and grind size, which makes the calibration process less pleasant initially or when there’s a change of blend.

If you are doing single dosing, you are not using the timer. You grind out a pre-measured amount of coffee every time you make an extraction. The Bezzera BB005 will be ideal as it has less retention at the feeding collar. We recommend using the single-dosing method for home users or low-volume areas. It’s an easier method to use and teach a new user.

Bezzera BB005 uses a 48mm conical burr, the number may appear smaller than the Q50’s 54mm, but the conical burrs for the Bezzera actually have a much bigger surface area which means that it can grind much finer, almost equivalent to the M80E’s 63mm. Conical burrs produce grinds that are rounder to give a better yield.  Besides that, the RPM for the BB005 is much slower, so the result is generally more favourable.

A quick guide for owners:

On the calibration of grind size and setting the timer

The calibration guide below is based on the Quamar M80E, which will be very similar to the Q13E.

For the Q50 series:
Q50E, there are only two programmable buttons.
Q50S, there are neither any programmable buttons nor an electronic panel. There’s a switch knob at the side for timer control.

It is important to use the grinder brush and empty the chute occasionally.
Depending on the level of oiliness of the bean, coffee can be retained and eventually block coffee from dosing out correctly.
The grinder should not be used to grind other objects.

Warning:
Do not insert your finger into the grinder!

Disclaimer:

Please note that the warranty does not cover the burrs.
The burrs are made of exceptionally hard material. It cannot be damaged by grinding coffee beans for a year in a non-industrial environment. Unless the user damages the grinder to grind other material, beans weren’t properly destoned or used in a commercial environment.
