Gaggia Espresso Machine

Gaggia Espresso Machine

Looking to shop for a Gaggia espresso machine?

It’s one of the prospective brands for retail in Singapore that we’re looking at.

Gaggia was established many years ago in Italy. The company is one of the iconic brands in the world known for making professional espresso machines. Gaggia created beautiful equipment but most of their home espresso machine made by them feature only single boilers.

We have halted our launch in order to sell Gaggia home espresso machines in Singapore. As there is a brand that we carry that have a longer history and better selections of machines. That’s the world renowned Bezzera, which you can find on our main website www.finecoffeecompany.com. Bezzera is a manufacturer of espresso machines based in Milan, Italy. They are the first company to develop an espresso machine and has been in operation since 1901. Bezzera is one of the few Italian manufacturing firms with a complete production facility that can construct an espresso machine from scratch.

The main reason we chose not to carry Gaggia is because we do not think that single boilers like the Gaggia Classic Pro, fit the demand of most users nowadays, especially in Singapore where drinkers prefer espresso drinks like latte or cappuccino.

What is a single boiler?

A single boiler espresso machine has only one boiler that is used to brew coffee and steam or froth milk.

What’s the problem with single boilers?

If you only have a single boiler, and you want to brew a shot of espresso and steam milk for lattes, you have to wait for the boiler to heat up to steaming temperature before brewing your espresso. You have to switch between modes and perform some rituals of emptying the boiler by flushing hot water out to create space for building steam. You have to keep your attention on the indicator light to know what is happening. This can be very cumbersome and time-consuming for some users, especially in the rushing morning.

Also, the temperature of the group head sways too much between the different modes and users normally have problems maintaining consistency and making good espresso. This will make it very difficult for users to explore different coffees. Single boilers were the type of machines to be purchased a number of decades ago. For now, there are much better choices that are almost in every way better.

The steam wand also lack power as the compact appliance normally has a small boiler. If the user is not careful or control well, and forgot to fill the boiler with water, they may destroy their heating element easily.

What type of boiler systems should be used?

espresso machine on all the time

Nowadays, most premium espresso machines come with heat exchanger boilers. It has a specially designed boiler, having a compartment inside a boiler. Drinkers of cappuccino or latte love such espresso machines.

With it, you do not need to switch modes and worry about consistency. You do not need to switch modes. Switch it on and let it heat. Once ready, you can do both frothing milk and espresso extraction at the same time.

Users can focus on their grinder to dial their roasted coffee beans to the right grind size. Like a barista, can put their remaining time, working on their other tools like the portafilter or tamper. Full attention to the sign from the coffee extraction to pull great espresso. Or working on how to pour the milk froth with a lovely texture.

Other problems with single boilers or thermobloc machines

Some of the machines can only work with pre ground coffee, this is impossible to create the perfect espresso as beans oxidise very quickly. Some machines recommend using pods like the ese pods, but they do suffer the same consequence from oxidation.

The portafilter that is used may not be of the same commercial 58mm wide standard and use non-professional filter baskets. It could be using pressurized basket which basically has a funnel to slow down the flow to make It appear deceivingly slower but it’s actually flowing too fast. This means that the coffee is not up to the standard and will not taste good as any barista with Italian passion will expect.

The machine also normally lacks safety features like pressure release valves. And the drip tray is normally very small. meaning that the user has to empty it more often.

What brand should you get?

If you like the best machine for the best espresso, then you will have to consider the Spring Lever espresso machines, like the Bezzera Strega. This concept was formed in 1942 using the 58mm size portafilter. The beauty of this machine is the way it extracts espressos in varying pressure, it cuts off the sourest and the bitter ends of the coffee and releases a wider spectrum of flavours. This machine requires minimal cleaning and has the durability that lasts the longest among all types of espresso machines of the same league. As the extraction is done by the compression of spring the pump pushes its pressure.

There’s also the world-famous E61 system. Which you can purchase from Bezzera E61 range.

This is an example of an E61 Grouphead.

Or the even better BZ electrically heated group head that are easy to maintain and poor good espresso? And it’s coming from a brand that has been around for almost a century of solid reputation. From the original inventor of the modern espresso machine. You not only paying a better price, you are paying for a known reliable brand and a collection of history.
